Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: The Hungarian government is drawing cartoons of Zelensky instead of explaining how they ruined the economy

"Instead of explaining to the Hungarian public how they screwed up the economy, the Hungarian government is busy drawing cartoons with the Ukrainian president. Looks stupid, boring, and unconvincing." Heorhii Tykhyi, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's spokesman wrote on Twitter. The post was a reaction to billboards which have recently appeared in Hungary, showing Péter Magyar (the leader of the strongest Hungarian opposition party, Tisza) and Volodymyr Zelensky as two newly hatched chicks, suggesting that Magyar is “the Hungarian Zelensky”. The post also included a picture of the billboard with the words “Careful: Hungarian propaganda”

The billboard appears to be a continuation of the campaign launched by the National Resistance Movement (Nemzeti Ellenállás Mozgalom) led by Bence Apáti. The video claims that there are many similarities between Péter Magyar and Volodymyr Zelensky and at the end of the clip, the two are swept onto a dustpan as two piles of trash.

In part of the video, the legal expert of Civil Összefogás Fórum or CÖF (Civil Cooperation Forum, a nominally non-governmental organization that provides political support to the Orbán government), Zoltán Lomniczi Jr. explains the message of the video. The public broadcaster’s news, Híradó.hu found this so important, that they aired the segment with the explanation four times. The same public broadcaster did not report at all on last Saturday’s Budapest Pride, which was attended by hundreds of thousands of people in downtown Budapest.
