Our readers donated 580 million forints to Telex through their 1 percent tax donations
The results of this year's 1 percent donations (Hungarian law allows taxpayers to allocate one percent of their personal income tax to certain organizations or causes of their choosing each year – TN) have been announced, and Telex's Foundation Szabad Sajtóért Alapítvány raised an amount that exceeded all our expectations and broke all previous records: 580,563,356 forints (slightly more than 1,4 million euros). This is a huge success for our community and it clearly demonstrates the power Telex's readers have.
Just as launching our news site in 2020 was made possible by our readers from all over the country contributing what they could, now, five years later, it is thanks to our community that we are able to operate the way we currently do, and that we can deliver news to millions of Hungarians without a paywall.
This result is a clear signal that Telex has the backing of a massive audience: the Hungarian readers who choose us because this is where they want to get their news from. We are very grateful for every single donation. We continue to count on you, because Telex will exist as long as you, our readers want it to and as long as you help us maintain it through your support.
Our paper is not owned by political parties, oligarchs, or powerful background players, but by Telex's employees, and we continue to pursue the goal that you, our readers, have set for us: to produce a free paper that reaches many, the making of which cannot be influenced by outside forces. A paper which helps people throughout the country stay informed, and does so in accordance with the traditional journalistic principles.
Thanks to our readers' support, we are not only able to cover daily news, but also to regularly produce more in-depth content that takes longer to prepare – and we even have the opportunity to bring contemporary Hungarian literature back into everyday life (through publishing contemporary Hungarian authors’ work – TN). All of this is helping us understand and interpret the reality around us better.
We remain committed to continuing our work in line with Telex's principles and core values—freedom, community, professionalism, and authenticity—and we invite our readers to continue to join us on this journey.
