Viktor Orbán hits out at Swedish PM in yet another post
Following his heated exchange with the Swedish PM a few days ago, Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán has once again taken aim at Sweden's government on X. In a Wednesday morning post, he wrote that "We feel for the Swedish people" who are "trapped in disorder while their leaders spend their time pointing fingers". In the post, Orbán again presented figures – whether real or imagined – data from 2024 about both Hungary and Sweden.
The spat between Viktor Orbán and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson began after Orbán used statistics on crime in Sweden to illustrate the decline of the West at the Fight Club's training camp over the weekend, and then shared a video about it on X. “The Swedish government lectures us about the rule of law. Meanwhile, according to an article by Die Welt, criminal networks are exploiting Swedish children as killers, knowing the system won’t convict. A country once known for order & safety is now collapsing: over 280 underage girls arrested for murder, families living in fear. It’s heartbreaking. The Swedish people deserve better!” – Orbán wrote next to the video.
The Swedish Prime Minister called the Hungarian Prime Minister's claim that 284 young girls were arrested for murder in Sweden last year "an outrageous lie." Ulf Kristersson responded to Orbán’s statement by saying that it is "not surprising that someone who is dismantling the rule of law in his own country" is spreading false information.
It was later revealed that Orbán had greatly exaggerated the figure and cited a number seventy times higher than the actual number: according to the Swedish Public Prosecutor's Office, there weren't 284 minors arrested for murder last year, only four. Despite the refutation, Orbán's original post remains unchanged on X as of Wednesday.
