A documentary about the life of Hungarian physicist Ferenc Krausz and his path to the Nobel Prize has won the award for best documentary film at the International Science and Technology Film Festival held in Kraków, Poland between October 22 and 25, according to MTI. It was at the festival that the film entitled Ferenc Krausz – Capturing the Electrons was first shown to an international audience.

According to the expert panel, "the documentary offers a glimpse into the world of leading laboratories, reminding us that even the most significant discoveries begin with the curiosity of a young mind," reads the announcement from the National Film Institute.

Hard work and sneakers

This cinematic portrait is the first time the Hungarian scientist has shared the story of his life. His exemplary career has been marked by perseverance and the constant challenging of boundaries: Krausz learned from his father that with hard work and a good team, you can achieve anything. Capturing the Electrons also highlights his unique discovery, which made electrons visible to the human eye, not only revolutionizing the scientific world but also creating new opportunities in medical diagnostics.

The 61-minute documentary was produced by Film Positive, with Tamás Lajos as producer, Dávid Gajdics as cinematographer, Anna Vághy as editor, while the soundtrack is the work of Péter Dózsa. "Capturing the Electrons portrays Ferenc Krausz as an infinitely modest, humble person who lives for science, does a lot of charity work, is passionate about nurturing young talents, loves to wear sneakers (even when attending official events), and loves running even more. Even on the morning of the Nobel Prize award ceremony, he was out running laps in Stockholm in minus ten degrees Celsius – as we previously wrote in our review."

The film may be viewed on Filmio, with optional English subtitles.
