Zelensky: Blocking Ukraine's EU accession Orbán's very specific support to Putin

On Tuesday, while speaking via video link at Euronews’ EU Enlargement Summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had some harsh words to say about Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán on account of his approach to Ukraine’s EU accession.

"We wouldn't like that Viktor would support Russia, because blocking Ukraine in the EU is the very specific support by Viktor Orbán of Putin", said the Ukrainian president.

"I don't think that I have to offer something to Viktor Orbán," Zelensky said," In his view, it is Orbán who should offer something to Ukraine, as they are protecting the whole of Europe from Russia. Previously, in early October, Zelensky said that it was only a matter of time before Ukraine became a member of the EU, “with or without Viktor Orbán.”

Ukraine has reiterated its commitment to joining the EU on several occasions. Zelensky also criticized the Hungarian prime minister in May, saying that "he has no right to block (Ukraine's) accession because it is another state's decision. Just as we have no right to interfere in the affairs of Hungary."
