New US Chargé d'Affaires introduces herself in Hungarian

Caroline Savage, the new Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy in Budapest has introduced herself in Hungarian. In a video posted on X, Savage spoke about her work, her first impressions, and a bit about herself.

Savage has not just arrived in the country; she was appointed Deputy Chief of Mission at the embassy in August. According to her biography, she was previously director of the Office of Russian Affairs at the US State Department, and before that she headed the US Consulate General in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

During her previous assignments in Washington, she was director of the State Department's Foreign Press Center and served as Director for Russia and Central Asia on the National Security Council.

Savage has also served in Azerbaijan, Mozambique, Belarus, and Luxembourg. She has studied Kazakh, Russian, Azerbaijani, French, and Portuguese, and in the video she revealed that she has spent the last 10 months learning Hungarian.
