Semmelweis University among top 200 medical universities on Times Higher Education list

Budapest's Semmelweis University has been ranked among the top 200 higher education institutions worldwide in its field, further improving on its position from last year in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE) in this field. The university is now ranked 186th in the world and is the best medical university in Hungary and Central Europe.

Times Higher Education's 2026 medical and health field ranking compared 1,230 universities based on criteria such as education, research excellence, and industry results. Among other things, the university's scientific publications have become more frequently cited, and its research has gained in reputation.

Among Hungarian medical universities, the University of Pécs was ranked in the 401-500 category, while Debrecen and Szeged were ranked in the 501-600 category. The world rankings are topped by the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and Harvard.
