Péter Magyar, Hungary’s prime minister-elect met with Italian PM Giorgia Meloni on Thursday. He described the meeting as successful and forward-looking, in a post on Facebook.

“I invited the Prime Minister to visit Hungary, and we agreed that we would support the productive endeavours of Italian and Hungarian investors, as well as the prompt completion of the Hungarian port in Trieste,” Péter Magyar added.

Anita Orbán, the incoming Minister of Foreign Affairs, also traveled to Rome for the talks on Thursday.

As he had previously announced, Péter Magyar traveled to Italy on Tuesday, where he attended the screening of the documentary about the Tisza Party at the Riviera International Film Festival.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, a former key ally of Viktor Orbán, congratulated Péter Magyar on his election victory on her X page on April 12 and, on behalf of the Italian government, wished him much success in his work. She also wrote that the two countries are bound by a deep friendship and thanked Viktor Orbán for the intensive cooperation over the past few years.
